President Obama Re-Nominates Norton Recommendation, Patricia Smoot, to U.S. Parole Commission
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said she was gratified that President Obama has nominated J. Patricia Wilson Smoot, recommended by Norton, to serve a second term as a commissioner on the U.S. Parole Commission (USPC). President Obama granted Norton senatorial courtesy for several USPC vacancies because the District of Columbia has been under its jurisdiction since the National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997.
Smoot, who currently is a USPC commissioner, has previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for District of Columbia and as a judicial law clerk for a judge on the D.C. Superior Court. She received a B.A. in English and Sociology with a concentration in Legal Studies from Bucknell University, and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America.
