Tuesday: Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys Roundtable on Racial Profiling, Open to Public
*President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report Released Today*
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today's release of the President's Task Force Report on 21st Century Policing, the Congressional Caucus on Black Men and Boys (CCBMB) will host a roundtable discussion, "Racial Profiling – What Next after Ferguson and New York City," focusing on the report's findings and discuss policing in communities of color, on Tuesday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m. in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building (House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Room). The roundtable will provide the first opportunity for Members of Congress to hear the findings, ask questions, and offer comments. The report's major policy recommendations include requiring local law enforcement agencies to report to the federal government when their officers are involved in fatal shootings. The Task Force was created by President Obama following the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson last year. The event is open to the public.
The roundtable will feature White House Task Force on 21st Century Policing Co-Chair and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles "Chuck" Ramsey. Also featured will be Howard University Student Government President Leighton Watson, who helped organize demonstrations in the District of Columbia after Ferguson and spent a weekend on the ground in Ferguson, and will offer the perspectives of young people who have made profiling of people of color a national issue. Ronald Davis, Executive Director of the President's Task Force and Director of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Service, will be present to answer any additional questions on the Task Force's report.
