Tomorrow: Norton to Speak at the Wharf on 50th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act

March 21, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tomorrow, at 10:00 a.m., Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at an event hosted by the Potomac Riverkeeper Network at the Wharf commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. Norton's legislation allowed the Wharf development to proceed, and she has filed a proposal for the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 (WRDA) to require the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study swimming in the Potomac and Anacostia rivers.

"I am pleased to be speaking at tomorrow's 50th anniversary event commemorating the Clean Water Act, especially because it's being held at the Wharf, which I worked to transform into an area D.C. residents could use for commerce and recreation," Norton said. "I look forward to advancing efforts for cleaner waterways in D.C., particularly my WRDA proposal to study the viability of swimming in the Potomac and Anacostia rivers."
