WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that she will introduce a bill to establish a national commission, based on the 9/11 Commission, to provide a complete account surrounding the attack on the U.S. Capitol yesterday, including preparedness and response. The commission would also provide recommendations to protect against future attacks.

“I will be introducing a bill to get the earliest possible establishment of a national commission on the attack on the U.S. Capitol,” Norton said. “This commission must be above the fray of politics to give us clear answers on what happened yesterday. The American people deserve unbiased answers. What happened yesterday is deeply personal for me and for many who live or grew up in D.C. and recognize the Capitol as a sacred symbol of democracy. The terrorists came into our hometown and wreaked mayhem on our federal governing institutions. This commission would provide definitive answers to help Congress determine policies to ward off such attacks in the future.”
