WASHINGTON, D.C.—In solidarity with federal employees working or furloughed without pay, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today wrote the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives, Philip Kiko, requesting that her salary be withheld until the ongoing partial federal government shutdown ends and all federal workers receive their paychecks.

“There should be no difference between the average federal worker and a Member of Congress when it comes to paychecks during a government shutdown,” Norton said.  “Both are employed by the federal government, and both are paid from the U.S. Treasury.  The best way to stand in solidarity with my constituents and other federal employees who are being denied their paychecks because of President Trump’s reckless shutdown is to put myself in their same position.  Pay must be for all, not for some.”
