Norton to Offer Remarks at Black History Month Kick-Off, Today

February 1, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will commemorate the start of Black History Month by offering remarks at an event hosted by District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser today, Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at Howard Theatre (620 T St.). Norton will speak about economic development projects she has brought to the District, which have fostered job and business opportunities for African American residents. Mayor Bowser will launch A Fair Shot: A Toolkit for African American Prosperity, which provides an overview of D.C. government funded programs and services that support African American residents on their pathway to the middle class.

"We are beginning Black History Month by looking at what we are doing today to create new history for a new prospering middle class in our city," Norton said. "Highlighting the importance of economic opportunity by noting current pathways to reach the middle class helps ensure we are making black history today."
