WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), ranking member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee, today said the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) report of its Safety Management Inspection (SMI) of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) rail and bus systems is a “virtual mandate for continuous monitoring of WMATA to guard against safety lapses that cost lives.”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the House Aviation Subcommittee, today released a letter she wrote to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael P. Huerta to arrange a meeting to discuss persistent helicopter noise throughout the day and night affecting Northwest and Northeast District of Columbia neighborhoods. Helicopter noise was brought to Norton’s attention by residents following a Norton community meeting in May on airplane noise in Ward 3.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will march in the 40th annual Capital Pride Parade with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, as she has every year since being elected to Congress, tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, 2015, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at 22nd and P Streets NW. The parade, which travels 1.5 miles from Dupont Circle to Logan Circle, is expected to draw over 100,000 spectators.
