WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that President Obama has nominated Abid Qureshi to become a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, as recommended by Norton. Norton said Qureshi would be the first-ever Muslim appointed to a lifetime tenure judgeship. Qureshi currently is a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins LLP (Latham).

WASHINGTON, D.C.—When Congress returns from recess, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, the first woman to chair the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), will introduce a bill with original cosponsors Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) to prohibit employers from asking job applicants for their salary history before making a job or salary offer.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—As a result of a briefing that she requested with National Park Service (NPS) Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks Gay Vietzke, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) learned today for the first time that the current 10-day shutdown of the Washington Monument for purposes of a thorough investigation of its only elevator will likely last longer than 10 days and could stretch well into September.

Norton has been concerned about chronic Monument elevator shutdowns this summer and believes it is important for the public to know the reason.
