WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a member of the House Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, today said that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, which have been working together to restore the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, along with other states in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, need to look closely at the tremendously successful Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), a state and federal effort that is significantly improving the Great Lakes Basin’s water quality, restoring habitats of native species, reducing invasive species, and addressing other environmental problems.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee (OGR), today said there is no basis whatsoever for plans to establish a select committee to investigate Planned Parenthood, especially after OGR Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) conceded in an interview last night that his committee found no evidence that Planned Parenthood violated any laws.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—After the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) today recommended to the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) that the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) assume safety oversight responsibilities for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), ranking member of the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee, said she will support the District of Columbia in setting up a rail safety office, as Maryland and Virginia have already done, so that D.C. inspectors can conduct their own rail inspections under FRA regulations.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Although the House of Representatives will likely pass a short-term continuing resolution to fund the federal government and avoid a government shutdown for two months, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced her bill that would permanently allow the District of Columbia government to spend its local funds at the start of each fiscal year, preventing D.C. government shutdowns if Congress has not signed the District’s appropriations bill into law.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today pressed upon her House colleagues the urgency of passing her bill, the RECOVER Act, to provide free lifetime identity theft coverage to current, former and prospective federal employees whose personal data were compromised by Office of Personnel Management (OPM) data breaches in light of yesterday’s announcement by OPM that 5.6 million fingerprints were compromised, more than five times the original 1.1 million estimate.
