WASHINGTON, D.C. – Building on the unprecedented hearing in the Senate last Congress, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), today introduced her bill to make the District of Columbia the 51st state, with a record number of original cosponsors. Last Congress was history-making for the District's efforts to achieve statehood. Norton's statehood bill had a record number of cosponsors in both the House and the Senate, including the top four Senate Democratic Leaders, among them then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), ranking member of the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee, today said that Norton had requested a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) staff briefing, which occurred this afternoon, and a regional member briefing, which will take place Wednesday, January 21st, at a location to be determined, on Monday's Metro incident. NTSB promised to expedite its preliminary report in fewer than the usual 30 days.
