WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) spoke at the unveiling of the Youth Art Walk at Reagan Washington National Airport. The Youth Art Walk highlights work from young artists in the D.C. area. In prior years, the airport hosted a ceremony to announce the winner of the congressional art competition for D.C. The winner of the art competition has their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that the House today passed her Securities and Exchange Commission Real Estate Leasing Authority Revocation Act, which would revoke the independent real estate leasing authority of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and direct the Government Accountability Office to update its 2016 report on independent real estate leasing authority. The bill passed the House in September during the 117th Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) released her remarks as prepared for delivery from today’s joint press conference with Senator Tom Carper (D-DE). The press conference marked Carper’s introduction of the Senate companion to Norton’s D.C. statehood bill. Norton and Carper were joined by Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), co-lead for the Senate version of the bill, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As the federal tax filing season kicks off today, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued a statement reminding the public that the District of Columbia pays more federal taxes per capita than any state and more federal taxes overall than 23 states, but that D.C. residents do not have the voting representation in Congress or full local self-government accorded to residents of the 50 states. Norton said that the remedy is for Congress to pass her D.C. statehood bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today she will work to defeat the disapproval resolution introduced by Congressman James Comer (R-KY), and an additional disapproval resolution that Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) announced he will introduce, to prevent a local D.C. bill allowing noncitizen D.C. residents to vote in local elections from taking effect. The D.C. Council passed the bill in October to allow D.C. residents who are not citizens to vote in local elections by a vote of 12-1.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) spoke on the House floor during debate on the rules for the 118th Congress. The rule package passed last night removes the floor privileges of D.C.’s mayor, despite granting governors of states and 16 other categories of people – including foreign ministers – floor privileges.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that she introduced the District of Columbia statehood bill for the 118th Congress today with 165 original cosponsors. The bill passed the House for the first time in history in June of 2020 and passed again in April of 2021.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) urged the National Zoo today to reevaluate its policy requiring visitors to reserve passes ahead of time, saying the policy deters both visits from those without access to a smartphone or the internet and spontaneous visits. In addition, the requirement differs from the standard Smithsonian policy of not requiring passes for entry.
