WASHINGTON, DC – In advance of the April 14 birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a freedom fighter for the Dalit people, the office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that Norton will introduce a resolution when Congress returns from recess condemning Dalit untouchability, the practice of birth-descent discrimination against Dalit people, which is still widely practiced in India, Nepal, the Asian diaspora and other South Asian nations, and calling on these countries to recognize the human rights of the Dalit people and end all forms of untouchability within their borders.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today got a commitment from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chair, Bill Shuster (R-PA), and the Ranking Member, Nick Rahall (D-WV), to advance a provision to require the collection of data on sexual assaults that occur on airplanes, and therefore did not offer her bill, the “Protecting Airline Passengers from Sexual Assaults Act of 2014,” as an amendment to H.R. 4156, the Transparent Airfares Act, at the committee markup.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today filed her bill to require the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to collect and maintain data on sexual assaults that occur on airplanes as an amendment to H.R. 4156, the Transparent Airfares Act, and intends to offer it as an amendment at the Committee markup of H.R. 4156 tomorrow, April 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
