WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the following statement on U.S. Attorney Ron Machen's decision to temporarily move outside the District of Columbia:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a press conference this morning, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said she would seek the return of the District of Columbia Committee of the Whole vote in the 113th Congress that she first won in the 103rd. This vote has been denied when Republicans have been in power, but Norton hopes that it will be returned on January 3rd, the first day of the 113th Congress. Although not a vote on final passage of legislation, the Committee of the Whole vote permitted a District vote for the first time on the House floor. D.C.

The House passed the conference report on Thursday, and now goes to the President.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that a provision requiring the armed services to display the D.C. and territorial flags whenever the flags of the 50 states are displayed was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 Conference Report, which passed the House today. The Senate is expected to approve the House-passed conference report on Friday. Earlier this year, Norton did an investigation after learning from D.C. resident Tomi Rucker, an investigator with the D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) met one of her most important goals of the 112th Congress with the introduction of D.C. statehood legislation, the New Columbia Admission Act, in the Senate today. The Senate bill is the companion to Norton's New Columbia Admission Act (H.R. 265). The bill was introduced by Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), chair of the committee with jurisdiction over the District of Columbia, and was co-sponsored by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL), Patty Murray (D-WA) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA).
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a 137th birthday celebration for the late, noted historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) read a letter she sent today to President Barack Obama, calling on him to hold the appropriate officials accountable for developing a strategy and timeline to complete the Carter G. Woodson National Historic Site in the District of Columbia, and that he give the project the high priority it deserves in his fiscal year 2014 National Park Service (NPS) budget.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – After a 21-year fight, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) went to the House floor today to speak for her District of Columbia Hatch Act Reform Act and her more recent Hatch Act National Capital Region Parity Act as D.C. gained full equality under the Hatch Act. Norton got her bills included in the Hatch Act Modernization Act of 2012 (S. 2170), which passed the House today, and now goes to the president for his signature.
