WASHINGTON, DC – Today, a year after the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African-American boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch member, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) re-introduced her bill to reestablish a popular federal grant program aimed at reducing racial profiling. Norton's bill permits states to apply for grants to develop racial profiling laws, to collect and maintain data on traffic stops, to fashion programs to reduce racial profiling, and to train law enforcement officers.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that she will reintroduce tomorrow a bill, the Rachel Carson Nature Trail Designation Act of 2013, to commemorate Rachel Carson, the environmental pioneer and an inspiration for the development of the environmental movement. The idea for the bill, which designates a National Park Service trail in Glover Archbold Park in the District of Columbia in honor of Carson, was brought to the Congresswoman's attention by Glover Park residents.

Washington DC – At a Saturday press conference at 11:00 a.m. overlooking the D.C. Tax and Financial Services Fair, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and local IRS-certified tax preparers will explain their efforts to assure that no resident who cannot afford it has to go to a commercial tax preparer. Saturday morning's free tax service is available only to D.C. residents. The annual Norton tax fair at the Washington Convention Center, 10 a.m.-noon this year features free tax preparers from volunteer IRS (VITA) sites throughout the city.
