WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today joined D.C. government officials in requesting that the District of Columbia Local Budget Autonomy Act (S. 2345) be withdrawn from the markup in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee scheduled for Wednesday, because of an unusual number of anti-home-rule amendments filed by Republicans. "It is not surprising that Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), who for years has been the Senate leader for full and equal citizenship rights for D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today celebrated House passage of her Southwest Waterfront redevelopment bill (H.R. 2297), which is now headed to the White House for President Obama to sign into law. The bill clarifies the legal status of property at the Southwest Waterfront in order to allow the District to move forward with a major redevelopment project that will include 2.5 million square feet of hotel, office, retail, and residential space, as well as clear the way for increased maritime activity there.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will be tested for HIV today, Tuesday, June 26, 2012, between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at a mobile clinic located at the intersection of New Jersey Ave. and C St. SE. The mobile clinic will offer free and confidential HIV testing from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m and the Congresswoman hopes to be first in line. Norton invites mobile clinics to Capitol Hill every year for National HIV Testing Day, so members of Congress can lead by example and encourage their constituents to get tested.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today marked the 10th anniversary of Ilir Zherka's service as Executive Director of DC Vote by entering remarks in his honor into the Congressional Record recognizing his leadership in the fight to give the District of Columbia equal representation and rights in Congress. In her remarks, Norton said, "For 10 years, Ilir Zherka has been leading the fight for equal rights for the residents of the District of Columbia, within view of the U.S. Capitol. Ilir has visited the offices of many members of Congress.
