WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that she has gotten $57 million for a new Howard University Hospital in the Senate’s fiscal year 2022 Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill. Norton has long supported a new hospital and wrote an op-ed in The Hill arguing for the funding in July.

Norton recommended Cobb to President Biden. Biden, like Presidents Clinton and Obama, has granted Norton senatorial courtesy for judges on the U.S. District Court for D.C., the U.S. Attorney for D.C., the U.S. Marshal for the D.C. Superior Court, and the U.S. Marshal for the U.S. District Court for D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that she has secured $463 million for consolidation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at St. Elizabeths in Ward 8 in the District of Columbia in the Senate’s fiscal year 2022 DHS and Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations bills, which were released earlier this week. The DHS bill provides $209,700,000 and the FSGG bill provides $253,797,000.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today reintroduced a resolution honoring Joseph Curseen, Jr. and Thomas Morris, Jr., the United States Postal Service (USPS) employees who died from anthrax inhalation while working at the USPS processing facility located at 900 Brentwood Road NE, which is now named for them. Morris and Curseen died on October 21, 2001, and October 22, 2001, respectively. Norton’s resolution also honors the other victims of the anthrax attacks, as well as all USPS employees for their dedicated service to the nation in the face of threats to their health and to federal facilities throughout the United States.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) sent a letter yesterday to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts expressing concern about the Supreme Court's expanded security perimeter, which imposes burdens on and may create safety risks for residents of the neighborhood surrounding the court. The letter asks about the court's legal authority to block vehicle access to the 200 block of A Street NE and to order cars to move from that street, and the analysis the court conducted on safety threats to residents. The letter requested a response by October 26, 2021.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), chair of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which has jurisdiction over the Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), said today that she is deeply concerned about the derailment of a WMATA train last week, and will consult with Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Peter DeFazio (D-OR) about holding a hearing on the derailment, the safety of WMATA’s 7000-series railcars, and ongoing service disruptions. Norton also said she has requested and expects briefings soon by the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Jennifer Homendy, and WMATA General Manager and CEO Paul Wiedefeld. Norton is especially concerned that Metro knew about problems with the wheels on the 7000-series since 2017.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced the victories she secured in the Senate’s fiscal year (FY) 2022 District of Columbia Appropriations bill, which was released today. The bill includes three of Norton’s top priorities: $40 million for the D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant Program (DCTAG); increases in the DCTAG annual and lifetime awards; and removal of the two enacted FY 2021 riders, which prohibit D.C. from spending its local funds on abortions for low-income women and on recreational marijuana commercialization. The House-passed FY 2022 D.C. Appropriations bill contains these three priorities as well.
