WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced additional victories she secured for the District of Columbia in recently released House appropriations bills and accompanying reports. She secured $150 million in special capital funding for Metro and $184 million for a new Howard University Hospital. In addition, the Committee on Appropriations directed the Federal Railroad Administration to continue working with D.C. on the Union Station expansion project and to consider the feedback of all stakeholders, including residents of affected neighborhoods, in its planning process. The committee also directed the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to improve public access to the National Arboretum with the goal of removing car traffic from the surrounding neighborhood.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released her statement for the record ahead of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nominations of Jia Cobb and District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Florence Pan for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Norton recommended Cobb and Pan to President Biden. Biden, like Presidents Clinton and Obama, has granted Norton senatorial courtesy for judges on the U.S. District Court for D.C., the U.S. Attorney for D.C., the U.S. Marshal for the D.C. Superior Court, and the U.S. Marshal for the U.S. District Court for D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that she introduced today a bill to require the Director of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for the District of Columbia (CSOSA) and the Director of the Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia (PSA) to be D.C. residents during their tenure. CSOSA is a federal agency, and PSA is an independent entity within CSOSA.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today celebrated the announcement that the fencing around the Capitol Building grounds, erected after the January 6th attack on the Capitol, will be removed. The removal will start as soon as tomorrow and is expected to take three days. Norton has long worked to remove the fencing at the Capitol complex, both for its symbolism against open and democratic government and to restore access to roads and walkways for D.C. residents, emergency services, mail delivery, and local businesses. She also introduced a bill to prohibit federal funding from being used to install permanent fencing at the Capitol complex.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) this week recognized the six-month anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Since the attack, Norton has introduced several bills to mitigate similar attacks in the future and to provide greater home rule for the District of Columbia. Norton called on Congress to pass these bills.
