WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced a bill to require the Commanding General of the District of Columbia National Guard to reside in D.C. The bill, the District of Columbia National Guard Commanding General Residency Act, is similar to other bills Norton has introduced requiring certain federal officials to live in D.C., including U.S. District Court and Circuit Court judges for D.C., the U.S. Attorney for D.C., the U.S. Marshal for the D.C. Superior Court, the U.S. Marshal for the U.S. District Court for D.C., and the Director of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that President Biden’s historic infrastructure bill, the American Jobs Plan, should be considered to jumpstart the National Capital Planning Commission’s SW Ecodistrict Plan, which would turn 110 acres between the National Mall and the Southwest Waterfront into a mixed-use neighborhood. The American Jobs Plan would provide billions of dollars to upgrade federal buildings, and Norton will use her senior role on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I), which has jurisdiction over federal buildings, to look at the possible redevelopment of the Department of Energy (DOE) headquarters into a mixed-use complex to jumpstart the SW Ecodistrict Plan.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that the Committee on Oversight and Reform (COR) will mark up and vote on her District of Columbia statehood bill (H.R. 51) on Wednesday, April 14th at 10:00 a.m. It will be only the second markup of the bill in Congress since 1993 and will occur just two days before D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that President Biden today nominated District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Florence Pan to the U.S. District Court for D.C., as recommended by Norton. Biden today also nominated U.S. District Court for D.C. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Norton recommended Judge Jackson to President Obama for the U.S. District Court for D.C. Pan is being nominated for the vacancy that will be created when Judge Jackson is confirmed by the Senate for the D.C. Circuit. Pan is Asian American and Jackson is African American.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced an extension of the deadline to submit an application to her office for fiscal year 2022 Community Project Funding, previously known as earmarks. The Appropriations Committee has extended the deadline for members of Congress to submit requests for Community Project Funding, which allowed Norton to extend her office’s deadline. For a Community Project Funding request to be considered by Norton’s office, eligible entities must email an application to NortonCommunityProjectFunding@mail.house.gov by noon on April 12.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) sent a letter to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg asking him to include funding for the Washington Union Station Expansion Project (SEP) in the Biden administration’s Build Back Better proposal. As the second most senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Norton has long championed public transportation and supported expanding Union Station.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today commended the introduction of the For the People Act (S. 1), a sweeping democracy reform bill that includes findings supporting statehood for the District of Columbia, in the Senate. The bill has 48 original cosponsors. The House companion bill (H.R. 1) also has findings supporting D.C. statehood.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she has recommended Jia Cobb to President Biden for the vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia that will be created when Judge Emmet Sullivan takes senior status on April 3. Biden, like Presidents Clinton and Obama, has granted Norton senatorial courtesy for judges on the U.S. District Court for D.C., the U.S. Attorney for D.C., the U.S. Marshal for the D.C. Superior Court, and the U.S. Marshal for the U.S. District Court for D.C.

Most D.C. neighborhood parks are owned by NPS.
