WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) wrote the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to request that BOP provide information on District of Columbia residents leaving BOP custody so that the District can help with reentry into the community. Alternatively, Norton requested that if BOP continues to take the position that providing this information would violate the Privacy Act, inmates be provided a waiver form to sign before their release.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a former chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, announced today that, in honor of Equal Pay Day, March 24th, she introduced two bills to help close the wage gap. Equal Pay Day marks the number of additional days women must work to earn what men earned the prior year. The Fair Pay Act (H.R. 2243) would require that if men and women are doing comparable work, they must be paid comparable wages. The Pay Equity for All Act of 2021 (H.R. 2242) would prohibit employers from asking job applicants for their salary history before making a job or salary offer. The Pay Equity for All Act is included in the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7), which the House is expected to pass this month.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that she continues to strongly oppose the installation of permanent fencing at the U.S. Capitol complex despite the incident on Friday when an individual rammed a car into a vehicle security checkpoint at the Capitol building, resulting in the tragic death of one Capitol Police officer and the injury of another. Norton says there will always need to be Capitol Police officers stationed at security checkpoints, regardless of the distance of the checkpoint to the Capitol, making it almost impossible to prevent a person from using a car to attack officers. Norton also noted that the retractable vehicle barrier at the security checkpoint at the Capitol building worked as intended and stopped the attacker’s car from entering the grounds.
