WASHINGTON, D.C.—In remarks at the District of Columbia Council swearing-in ceremony today at the Washington Convention Center, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer her outlook on what a Republican-controlled Congress and executive means for the District in 2017. She will also swear in Councilmember Robert White, who served in her congressional office from 2008-2013.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Before the 115th Congress convenes, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will hold a press conference with District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Office of Veterans Affairs Director Ely S. Ross to call on Congress to restore D.C.’s delegate vote on the House floor in the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union, which was upheld as constitutional by two federal courts in 1993 and 1994. The press conference will take place Tuesday, January 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., in 2456 Rayburn House Office Building (Fourth Floor).

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Concerned about the deteriorating finances of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), ranking member of the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee, was relieved by today’s announcement by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) that it will the lift financial restrictions placed on the transit agency for federal grants awarded after July 1, 2015.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) thanked President Obama for continuing his commitment to giving nonviolent offenders a second chance by yesterday granting 153 commutations and 78 pardons to individuals serving sentences, including commutations for two District of Columbia residents convicted under District of Columbia law for nonviolent drug offenses.
