WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said she very much appreciated Senator Rand Paul's (R-KY) comments to Roll Call today about the District of Columbia's marijuana legalization initiative, and said she will be sending him a note thanking him for his principled support for D.C. home rule. District voters are expected to approve an initiative today legalizing marijuana.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) on Thursday led a special tour of the House Floor for 50 Anacostia High School students. Large groups of visitors and residents, including students, can only visit the House Floor with a Member of Congress present, making visits rare. Following a briefing about what takes place on the House Floor, especially for District of Columbia bills, the students visited the Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, which began on Saturday, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) cannot ignore the official conclusion that the Washington football team's name is derogatory, as found by the federal agency charged to make the decision, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She said that the FCC, after appropriate hearings, should use its precedent in deciding whether the use of the derogatory name by broadcast television and radio stations can continue.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today received a Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association (APA). Norton was awarded the Presidential Citation in recognition of her decades of human rights and congressional work, and for her sponsorship and cosponsorship of legislation that promotes human and civil rights, fair labor practices, affordable health care, and increased access to mental health care services. The announcement of the award comes a week after Norton spoke at the opening of a new Unity Health Care center in southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today offered some steps District of Columbia hospitals should take to bolster their Ebola preparedness, following a response to a letter Norton sent to D.C. hospitals asking about their Ebola preparedness. Norton said that she was pleased that the D.C. Department of Health had been proactive on Ebola since August and that the preparedness checklist she recommended showed that D.C. hospitals have achieved basic preparedness for Ebola. The response, collected from the hospitals by the D.C.
