WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) tonight claimed a legislative victory as Rep. Thomas Massie's (R-KY) amendment to the Fiscal Year 2015 District of Columbia Appropriations bill, which attempted to wipe out all of the District's local gun safety laws, was ruled out of order. Massie may try again tomorrow.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) introduced a resolution marking Saturday, July 26th as National Dance Day, celebrated annually on the last Saturday of July. National Dance Day celebrations began on the National Mall in the District of Columbia and in Los Angeles, California five years ago. This year's celebration will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Kennedy Center's North Plaza.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's (D-DC) bill, H.R. 4185, to give the District of Columbia Courts, Public Defender Service (PDS) and the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) authority that will modernize their operations passed in the House today by voice vote. The Norton bill gives the three agencies authority other federal agencies already have.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will attend the investiture ceremony for Judge Christopher "Casey" Cooper of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Cooper's nomination was recommended to President Obama by Norton, and he was confirmed by the Senate in March.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Ranking Member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, said today that the District of Columbia and the states will be relieved that a new House Ways and Means Committee bill funds the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) through May 2015, avoiding rationing of transportation and infrastructure funds, but disappointed that the short-term reauthorization leaves them unable to dig into the backlog of significant projects that require the standard six-year reauthorization.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) released a letter Norton sent today to the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the U.S. House of Representatives regarding contract workers, many of them D.C. residents, who were fired because of a new CAO employment policy that requires all vendors to undergo a background check before obtaining identification badges. Many of these previously employed workers were unable to obtain ID badges due to a prior criminal history.
