WASHINGTON, DC – Tomorrow, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander will host the first "Clean-up our History Day at Woodlawn Cemetery." It will begin with a brief press conference, which will be followed by the guided community cleanup of the historic cemetery.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced the agenda for the first of several planned "Clean-up our History Day at Woodlawn Cemetery," on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the cemetery (4661 Benning Road SE). Most of the time will be spent on cleanup, but there will be brief opening remarks by Norton, Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, Lonnie G. Bunch, Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Major General Errol R. Schwartz, Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard, Steve Shulman, Executive Director of Cultural Tourism DC, and Dr. Vincent Hill, University of the District of Columbia Mortuary Science Program Director.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will hold a Norton in Your Neighborhood with the Friends of Kingman Park Community Association at Saint Benedict the Moor Church (320 21st Street NE), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Norton will brief residents on current congressional issues affecting them, including the bill signed yesterday to end the federal government shutdown and particularly its provision to allow D.C. to spend its local funds for the full fiscal year while the federal government must function on a three-month continuing resolution.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s (D-DC) work on multiple fronts to free the District of Columbia’s local funds has led to victory with a Senate, House and administration agreement today to allow D.C. to spend its local funds and remain open for all of fiscal year 2014 (through September 30, 2014) as part of a bill to reopen the federal government through January 15, 2014.

WASHINGTON, DC – As she continues to work on multiple fronts to prevent a District of Columbia government shutdown, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will offer an amendment and testify at the House Rules Committee on the House's continuing resolution (CR), which would reopen the federal government until December 15, 2013, to permit the D.C. government to spend its local funds and remain open for all of fiscal year 2014 (September 30, 2014). The committee meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today wrote letters to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) asking them to include in a possible continuing resolution (CR) to reopen the federal government language to give D.C. the authority to spend its local funds for all of fiscal year 2014, and not just until the expiration of the CR if it is shorter than a full fiscal year.
