WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the wake of the Secret Service prostitution scandal, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a former chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, called on Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan to move aggressively to give women more opportunities for employment and promotion in the agency, where women now make up only 11 percent of the workforce. She said she believes it is significant that the heroes of two recent scandals were women.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today to ask her to serve on the House – Senate conference committee charged with reauthorizing the surface transportation reauthorization bill. The bill, if enacted, would likely be the only major job creation bill passed during this Congress. Norton was chair and is now ranking member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that two of her bills to increase the city's home-rule authority will be marked up by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in SD-342. The bills would remove the District from the federal Hatch Act, allow it to pass its own Hatch Act, and give the city flexibility to set its own dates for special elections.
