Washington, DC – Although the first session of the 112th Congress ended without passage of any major or memorable national legislation, the intensity of its mostly failed campaign against the democratic prerogatives of a local jurisdiction, the District of Columbia, will not soon be forgotten. Moreover, federal spending cuts, the dominant issue of the session, will register in federal programs here as elsewhere, but Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) secured funding for the city's top priorities in jobs, economic development and education.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at the send-off of the D.C. Army National Guard's 273rd Military Police Company tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the D.C. National Guard Armory (2001 East Capitol Street, SE). Norton, who has seen off every deployment and welcomed every return of the D.C. National Guard during her congressional service, will give remarks to the 79 District National Guard Military Police troops who will be deploying to Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Nick Rahall and Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Ranking Member Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Inspector General (IG) requesting the first ever audit of the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC), the federal coordinator of the facility and of the modes of transportation and retail housed at Union Station.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that her Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission is accepting applications for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Applications are due before 5 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012. The Commission will vet and interview applicants and send several applicants to the Congresswoman, who will then make her recommendation to President Barack Obama.

Washington, DC – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that language encouraging the Department of Defense (DoD) to support public health studies of Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) in densely populated communities, like Spring Valley in Northwest Washington, D.C., was included in the report accompanying the fiscal year 2012 omnibus spending bill recently passed by Congress.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Covenant House, in conjunction with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), will welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus and more than 200 disadvantaged D.C. children to the 21st annual "D.C. Children's Christmas Party on the Hill" tomorrow, Wednesday, December 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in 345 Cannon House Office Building. The children will be provided with food and gifts while being entertained by a puppet show from ACLOWN4U, as well as by Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their elves.
