Norton to Testify in Rules Committee Today After Forcing Changes to Anti-Home Rule NRA Bill

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) will testify this evening before the Rules Committee to argue that her bill, the National Capital Security and Safety Act, co-sponsored with Henry Waxman (D-CA), chair, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and no other bill should be authorized for floor consideration. The Rules hearing will be held in rm. H-313, U.S. Capitol.

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, will be joined by Jim Oberstar, chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, to present a check to Mayor Adrian Fenty, for the restoration of historic Eastern Market, on Sept. 16, 10 a.m., rm. 2253, RHOB.

Following yesterday's exposure of risks to the federal presence posed by the NRA bill to rewrite D.C. gun laws, the Norton-Waxman, National Capital Security and Safety Act that many predicted would be defeated in committee and on the House floor had a surprising 21-1 victory today.

The findings for the attached National Capital Security and Safety Act, introduced today by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Henry Waxman (D-CA.), chair of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, explained the risks to the federal presence, including federal officials and employees, and visiting dignitaries.
