WASHINGTON, D.C. – As they are about to leave Congress, two members of the House could not resist one last chance to bully the District of Columbia, the Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today. Representative Steve Stockman (R-TX) has introduced a bill (H.R. 5755) that would prohibit the District from using automated traffic enforcement systems, such as red light and speed cameras. The bill's cosponsor is Representative Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI), who last year sought cosponsors for a similar bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will attend a White House ceremony honoring nineteen recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, including a posthumous award to three student civil rights activists, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, who were killed in Mississippi during the 1964 Freedom Summer. Norton, who spent her time in the Civil Rights Movement often in Mississippi, had pressed the White House to honor the three students with the award.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, today released a statement offering early congratulations to Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), the presumptive chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over District of Columbia matters, who, according to Roll Call, recently announced his general preference for more home rule for the District.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Norton will speak at the 2014 Annual Adoption Day Celebration tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, around 10:40 a.m. at the Moultrie Courthouse, 500 Indiana Avenue NW. The annual event celebrates the adoptions of children in the District of Columbia and features remarks from social workers, local officials, and adopted children. At the event, a D.C. Superior Court judge will announce the new last name for each child as they are received by their new parents.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Norton's recommendation for judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, her last to President Obama for this Congress, Amit Mehta, was confirmed today by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Mehta, who would be the first Asian Pacific American judge on the court, was recommended by the Congresswoman to President Obama.
