WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, announced a regional delegation meeting with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) officials on Thursday, December 11, at 3:00 p.m. on Capitol Hill, following recent news of proposed I-395 closures between New York Avenue and D Street NW without notice to her or any regional consultation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said she could not understand how the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) could have exchanged alternatives for closure of the vital I-395 highway between New York Avenue and D Street NW without notice to her and to neighboring Members of Congress whose constituents would be seriously affected.

The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Convention Center, 801 Mt. Vernon Place NW.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a former chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), today praised the Department of Labor (DOL) for its final rule, announced earlier this week, that implements President Obama's Executive Order (EO) prohibiting federal contractors from discriminating against employees based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The EO is the first federal anti-discrimination protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans in the private sector.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), an original cosponsor of the House-passed H.R. 863, the "Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Women's History Museum Act of 2013," today said she was pleased that the final fiscal year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) creates a commission to develop a report on a plan of action for the establishment and maintenance of a National Women's History Museum in the District of Columbia.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR), today said she was gratified that the two new chairs of the committees with jurisdiction over District of Columbia affairs in the next Congress indicated respect for the city's home rule without undue interference from Congress. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) is the presumptive chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) will be the chair of the House OGR Committee.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to press inquiries and reports, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she is working around the clock to protect the District of Columbia's right to home rule in the fiscal year 2015 omnibus spending bill, expected to be released on Monday. The House's version of the fiscal year 2015 D.C. appropriations bill contains three anti-home-rule riders – one from Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) to prohibit the District from using its local funds to decriminalize or legalize small amounts of marijuana, one from Rep.

Norton will be joined by workers, other Members of Congress, and representatives from Good Jobs Nation, an organization dedicated to procuring livable wages for federal contract workers.
