WASHINGTON, DC – Well over 100 District of Columbia students, parents and other residents attended Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's (D-DC) Service Academy College Fair and Sendoff on Tuesday evening, which, according Commander Kerwin Miller, USN SN (Ret) (USNA '75), the chairman of Norton's Service Academy Selection Board, was the largest crowd for the event since Norton has been a member of the House. More than half of the attendees were D.C. students in grades 6-11, most of whom came with parents.
WASHINGTON, DC – The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Norton will shop with other members of Congress at the Safeway on 14th Street SE today from 11:00 a.m. to noon, for the SNAP Challenge. Norton will take the challenge between June 13 and 19, 2013, to call attention to the impact of any further reductions in funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps, as it faces over $20 billion in cuts in the House Republican proposed farm bill reauthorization. A House vote on the bill is expected later this month.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Representative Phil Gingrey (R-GA) filed an amendment in the House Rules Committee to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014, which the House is expected to vote on this week, expressing the sense of the Congress that active duty military personnel in their private capacity should be exempt from the gun laws of the District of Columbia, but not those of any other state or locality. Gingrey earlier this year introduced the amendment as a stand-alone bill.
WASHINGTON, DC – As the Atlantic hurricane season begins, when many National Guards will be deployed throughout the country, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced a bill to give the District of Columbia home-rule authority over the D.C. National Guard and strengthen the Guard itself. The bill, the District of Columbia National Guard Home Rule Act, would give the mayor of the District authority, as governors have in their states, to deploy the D.C.

Norton attended auditions on Tuesday, held by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), for Lunchtime Music on the Mall and the "MetroPerforms!" series, where Hunter was one of many performers to audition.
