WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that she opposes, for home-rule reasons, the Federal Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act of 2019 (H.R. 3583), which would make female genital mutilation on minors a federal crime if it occurs in the District of Columbia or in connection with interstate or foreign commerce.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which Norton chairs, will hold a hearing tomorrow on the Federal Transit Administration's implementation of the Capital Investment Grant program, which funds the construction and expansion of "fixed-guideway" transportation, including subways, light rail, streetcars, and bus rapid-transit programs. Norton said this hearing is important for all Americans who use mass transit. Norton's district is in the midst of an overhaul of its subway system.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that the House Oversight and Reform Committee’s hearing on Norton’s District of Columbia statehood bill (H.R. 51), scheduled for July 24, has been postponed until the fall, likely in September, due to yesterday’s announcement that former special counsel Robert Mueller will now be testifying on his investigation before two House committees on July 24.
