President Obama wants to give federal employees a timely 0.5% raise after a two-year pay freeze, but House Republicans have just voted for a third year of frozen pay. Federal employees have not asked for a pass, but there is no way to justify singling them out as a solitary target, repeatedly picked out and picked on for cuts, apart from the rest of the federal budget.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that Norton will go to the White House tomorrow morning, February 15, 2013, for President Obama's 2012 Citizens Medal ceremony, where two of her constituents will be among the thirteen recipients. The President chose Maria Gomez, President and CEO of Mary's Center, and Harris Wofford, civil rights and Peace Corp veteran, out of nearly 6,000 public nominations.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) released Norton's testimony on behalf of House Democrats for the Rules Committee hearing on a bill (H.R. 273) that would extend the federal employee pay freeze through the rest of the year. Norton will testify today at 3:00 p.m. in H-312, Capitol.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that she will reintroduce tomorrow a bill, the Rachel Carson Nature Trail Designation Act of 2013, to commemorate Rachel Carson, the environmental pioneer and an inspiration for the development of the environmental movement. The idea for the bill, which designates a National Park Service trail in Glover Archbold Park in the District of Columbia in honor of Carson, was brought to the Congresswoman's attention by Glover Park residents.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a member of the House Democratic Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, announced today that her guest at President Obama's State of the Union address on February 12, 2013, will be Nardyne Jefferies, a District of Columbia resident whose 16-year-old daughter, Brishell Jones, was killed in a drive-by shooting on South Capitol Street on March 30, 2010.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that Norton will testify at the Rules Committee on behalf of House Democrats in opposition to a bill (H.R. 273) that would extend the federal employee pay freeze through the rest of the year at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Consideration by the Rules Committee is the final step in the legislative process before House floor consideration.

Washington DC – At a Saturday press conference at 11:00 a.m. overlooking the D.C. Tax and Financial Services Fair, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and local IRS-certified tax preparers will explain their efforts to assure that no resident who cannot afford it has to go to a commercial tax preparer. Saturday morning's free tax service is available only to D.C. residents. The annual Norton tax fair at the Washington Convention Center, 10 a.m.-noon this year features free tax preparers from volunteer IRS (VITA) sites throughout the city.
