Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced a resolution urging the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee of the United States Postal Service to issue a "forever stamp" recognizing Constantino Brumidi in 2015, the 150th anniversary of his completion of The Apotheosis of Washington, the fresco in the eye of the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.

Washington, DC – As Women's History Month begins, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will attend a pre-screening of The Cherokee Word for Water, a movie about Wilma Mankiller, who became the first female Cherokee Nation Chief, and her successful struggle leading a rural Cherokee community to bring water to their families. Yesterday evening, Norton attended a dinner with Wilmer Mankiller's husband and the movie's cast and producers. The screening will take place this evening, Monday, March 4, 2013, at 7:00 p.m.

Washington, DC – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that, for the first time, D.C. will be treated as a state for Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) funding under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), passed by the House today. Under the program, the District will get the same amount of funding as states, at 1.5% of the total appropriated by Congress, rather than the 0.25% allotted to four of the territories.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, which has jurisdiction over most federal construction and leases, said that the subcommittee was off to a good, fresh start today as the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee marked up 15 federal leases in the Washington, D.C. region, including six in the city. The six D.C. leases range in length from five to 15 years and have a value of $500 million.

Washington, DC – During her keynote remarks at the National Treasury Employees Union luncheon today, Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will announce that, if sequestration begins tomorrow, she will donate a day's pay for each day federal employees are furloughed this year as a result of sequestration divided between support of furloughed federal employees and providing the same level of constituent services to the residents of the District of Columbia by preventing furloughs of her own office staff.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, a year after the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African-American boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch member, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) re-introduced her bill to reestablish a popular federal grant program aimed at reducing racial profiling. Norton's bill permits states to apply for grants to develop racial profiling laws, to collect and maintain data on traffic stops, to fashion programs to reduce racial profiling, and to train law enforcement officers.
