WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that her amendment to the fiscal year 2020 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill to prohibit the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) from using its fiscal year 2020 funds to charge subsistence fees for offenders in halfway houses and on home confinement passed the House of Representatives last night. D.C. Code felons are housed by the BOP.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), a member of the Appropriations Committee, today released a joint letter urging supplemental FY 2019 appropriations to the District of Columbia’s Emergency Planning and Security Fund (ESPF), warning that if the District “does not receive supplemental appropriations for the EPSF, it would be put in the untenable position of not providing support for certain federal events or having to divert its local funds from local public safety activities to support activities that are to be covered by the EPSF.”
