WASHINGTON, D.C.—Nearing the one-year anniversary of her meeting with her Congressional Latino Council (CLC) in the wake of thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America arriving in the District of Columbia, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today met with CLC and other Latino leaders to update needed actions and to compile recommendations for helping unaccompanied minors and families in the District. D.C. has one of the three largest Central American communities in the United States.

WASHINGTON, DC—After the U.S. Capitol Police arrested a person today for bringing a gun into a House Office Building, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) asked the sponsors of a bill to eliminate almost all of the District of Columbia’s local gun safety laws why they have never introduced legislation to allow guns in the Capitol Complex and other federal buildings. In March, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) introduced a bill that would impose among the least restrictive gun laws in the country on D.C., including allowing guns in certain D.C. government buildings.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced another major step that has been taken for consolidation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at St. Elizabeths in Ward 8. The National Park Service (NPS) has transferred eight acres located in Shepherd Parkway to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to use to make infrastructure improvements needed to accommodate the next phase of DHS’s consolidation. Earlier this month, the National Capital Planning Commission and Commission on Fine Arts approved the land transfer.

Sloane, the U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia, for his dedicated service over the past five years following his announcement that he will resign his office effective May 31, 2015.
