WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the chair of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, today announced she will introduce a bill that would require the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to jointly submit recommendations to Congress on how to reduce train noise and vibration near homes, as well as cost estimates for each recommendation. Train noise and vibration negatively affect residents of the District of Columbia and of communities across the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today introduced the Ensuring Child Health Coverage Compensation in Divorce Act, which would require all health insurers to directly reimburse a divorced parent who pays for reimbursable out-of-pocket medical expenses. In a divorce, one parent typically is court-ordered to provide health insurance for a child, but the other parent may pay for reimbursable out-of-pocket medical expenses. Under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, group health insurers are required to directly reimburse the parent who pays for reimbursable out-of-pocket medical expenses. However, other health insurers are not required to do so. This issue was raised by one of Norton’s constituents.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) introduced a resolution in advance of Memorial Day recognizing District of Columbia servicemembers and veterans. The resolution also calls for statehood for the District to ensure these servicemembers and veterans enjoy the full rights of American democracy. D.C. residents have served in every war since the Revolutionary War, all without the full and equal rights that can come only with statehood.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) today praised President Joe Biden for mandating in an executive order that federal law enforcement agencies use body cameras, adopt and publicly post body camera policies and expedite release of video footage to the public following incidents involving serious bodily injury or deaths while an individual is in custody. On September 27, 2021, Norton and Beyer sent a letter to Biden requesting that he require federal law enforcement agencies to use body and dashboard cameras.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) congratulated Judge Florence Pan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on her nomination today to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Norton recommended Pan to President Biden for the U.S. District Court for D.C. Pan is the second judge recommended by Norton to be nominated to a higher court this year. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, whom Norton recommended to President Obama for the U.S. District Court for D.C., was recently confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) received an interim response from the National Park Service (NPS) to her April 21, 2022, letter about the investigation into an automobile crash that killed two pedestrians at Hains Point last year. NPS has informed Norton that it had supplied the driver’s name to the families of the victims, which they needed to file life insurance claims. Norton is still waiting for a response to her questions regarding the status of the investigation and the procedures for investigating traffic crashes on NPS land in the District of Columbia.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) criticized a bill introduced by Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) that would prohibit new construction, major renovations, and new or renewed leases for the headquarters of federal agencies in the National Capital Region (NCR), with limited exceptions. The bill also would require the General Services Administration to establish a process to consider the relocation of headquarters. The bill is intended to move headquarters out of the NCR.
